A team of scientists from the US San Diego zoo and a team of Northrop Grumman engineers conducted a UAV survey on sea glaciers in Hudson Bay, Canada.
The team, which considers the issue of climate change sensitively and examines the critical conditions in the habitat of polar bears, aims to develop conservation strategies for the future.
In the research called #PolarEye, the team, which aimed to get more detailed images of the glaciers, chose to use drones to avoid disturbing polar bears in the region and preventing them from posing a risk to people.
Equipped with four integrated sensors working simultaneously, the drone flew over 11 different sea glaciers to obtain millimeter resolution three-dimensional glacier maps.
Examining the traces left behind by polar bears on their journey from land to glaciers, the team also tested the drone's ability to detect these traces.
